Gluten Free Restaurant and Shopping Guide
REMEMBER: It is always wise to ask at the restaurant about Gluten Free items or ingredients and/or to call ahead and speak with the chef. This list was compiled by group members based on their experiences. NO ONE can assure you of a safe meal. Please use your own judgement. Links go to the most current allergen information on the company's site. Updated 9/2018.
Two nation-wide sites to check for GF restaurants are Gluten Free Registry and Find Me Gluten Free.
Another Broken Egg Cafe: Gluten-friendly menu, brunch items. Staff has training in cross-contamination
Azzip Pizza: GF crusts, has "cannot guarantee GF status" statement on allergen guide.
Black Sparrow Pub: Ask your server for celiac-friendly menu selections.
Cheddars has a small GF menu
Chick-fil-A: chargrilled chicken and most sides and dressings are GF,ask for nutritional info. Some locations have kids meals with GF grilled nuggets.
Chipotle: except for the flour tortilla, all items are GF. Let server know to change gloves and wash work area first to avoidcross contamination.
Christo's: all locations have a GF menu.
Core Life Eatery: All ingredients GF except bread (at counter)
Culver's has GF buns, but *caution* several members have become ill, so they don't properly deal with cross contamination
East End Grill: ask your server for GF options.
Five Guys Burgers and Fries: everything but the buns is GF, tell them you can't have wheat and they will change their gloves before preparing your meal. Ask for a burger on a lettuce leaf
Freshii can make most items GF
Gigi's Cupcakes has several GF cupcakes every day.
Grindstone's has a GF menu.
Heisei: sashimi and sushi (no tempura, fake crab, eel, fish roe, or kampyo) are mostly GF, salad dressing is not GF; bring your own soy sauce. Almost all other sauces and dishes have gluten.
Hu Hot says all their sauces are GF, but make sure you tell your server so they can tell the cooks to properly clean the cooking area for you.
La Scala: GF pasta can be substituted for most pasta dishes.
Maru Sushi: let them know you are GF and they will let you know what is safe. (See entry for Heisei above re:items to avoid).
Moe's: All chips and wraps and southwestern chili have gluten,everything else is GF; bring your own chips or tortillas and order burritos in a bowl. Let server know to change gloves to avoid cross contamination.
Monical's: All locations have GF pizza.
Nine Irish Brothers: see their website for their gluten free options. The West Side has a dedicated fryer for the pub chips.
Olive Garden has a GF menu
Outback Steak House and O'Charlie's have a GF menu, ask your server.
Panera: items can be made without gluten. Link goes to their page listing no gluten options (with the CYA statement that there may be cross-contamination).
Parthenon: many items are GF, ask your server.
Penn Station East Coast Subs: fries are GF, check with server.
The Pint often has a GF cider on tap, and has wine. See their Facebook page for current offerings.
Pizza: Noble Roman's Take and Bake, Dominos, Mad Mushroom, and Papa Johns all have GF crusts, but they are not guaranteed GF and don't take precautions for cross contamination.
Pizza Hut: has GIG-certified gluten free pizza. Ask your server for details.
Puccini's Smiling Teeth: They offer gluten free pizza and pasta ($1 more per order for pasta).
Purdue University: For dining halls, see Purdue Dining's website on food allergies. At the Union, Starbuck's has Egg White Bites and their GF egg and ham breakfast sandwich, and there are GF snacks at the Union Market. None of the other restaurants have specific GF menu items. The Port in Lawson has GF bread and soups. Cosi also has GF items. Purdue Catering can handle your allergy needs, just be sure to talk to one of the chefs.
Ross-Ade Stadium has gluten free options in the pavillions and on the concourse (including hot dogs and nachos).
Scotty's Brewhouse: Has a gluten free menu
Spageddie's has a GF menu
Stacked Pickle has a GF bun, but ask re:other options. Their fries are not GF!
Starbucks has GF Egg White Bites and a ham and egg english muffin that is prepared and heated in its own separate bag.
Thai Essence has a GF menu.
Wendy's: chili and baked potatoes with some toppings, hamburger patty, grilled chicken, most salads and dressings (nocroutons), and chocolate and vanilla Frostys are GF. Allergen info is usually posted along with the nutritional info on posters at each restaurant and on their web site.
Most full service restaurants will accommodate a GF request (e.g., Bistro 501, Mountain Jacks).
Most items in Indian restaurants are GF. Items with gluten include naan (and all breads), gulub jamun (sweet milk balls dessert), and some breaded items (most breaded items use chickpea flour). Please check with your server. The staff at Sharma's Kitchen is good about explaning which dishes are GF.
Most items in Thai restaurants are GF, since most thai dishes do not use soy sauce. At Basil Thai /Thai Essence are aware of celiac and will let you know which dishes are safe. (Thai Essense has a GF menu). Please check with your server, since some Thai restaurants do use soy sauce in some noodle dishes and soups or to marinate meats.

Sunspot - Sagamore Parkway, West Lafayette
Payless - has a GF section, dry goods and frozen.
ALDI - most items are clearly labeled for allergens, including gluten.
Meijer - has a GF section. dry goods and frozen. They have a Meijer Brand Allergen List on their website.
Fresh Thyme has a lot of GF items.
Wal-Mart - Most have a small GF section and GF pasta near the regular pasta (WL store). They clearly label their house brand (Good Sense) with allergens.
Sam's Club: has allergen free+GF whole roasted chickens
Beer -Most liquor stores in town have at least one type of GF beer and/or cider.
